HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Our journey began with Josef Bernert's arrival in the Pacific Northwest around 1880, where he crafted log rafts and wooden rowboats to transport log tows for local mills. In 1907, he introduced the 4.5 HP "Vanda," followed by the 19 HP "Flora" in 1910, pioneering some of the area's earliest steamboat engine tugs.

Over the decades, we have delivered fresh cut logs that fed Oregon’s early lumber mills, delivered juvenile salmon to fisheries charged with repopulating local rivers, and delivered the finished materials that built local roads and bridges. We even delivered Howard Hughes’ Spruce Goose to the Evergreen Aviation Museum.

Though our entity has evolved over time, humility and hard work remain foundational values and our business remains local and family owned.
